Doolies at attention during 100s weekend | Private Equity & Force Support

For the Zoomies BLUF

Hey, what's up, fellow Zoomies! I'm C2C Andrew Cormier, the host of the "For the Zoomies" podcast, and you’re in the right place if you want to stay connected with the USAFA community. I’ll do my best to show off what alumni of the best Service Academy are up to!

Upcoming Episode

  • 4-year starting football player David Harris ‘17 set his sights on private equity during his time as a cadet. He gave up his 60 days of leave to work a PE internship, and now 7 years later is graduating from Stanford GSB!

I’m getting texts and pictures and videos from people on yacht week and I’m sitting at a desk, its 8 o’clock and I’m still working. I was definitely feeling a little bit of FOMO that Summer…but I think I had an equivalent amount of fun while I was there…

  • FSS officer and member of the Office of Labor and Economic Analysis (OLEA) Maj Ian MacDonald gives a rundown of how he has been able to help airmen during his time in Force Support

In Afghanistan, we had a hangar coated in concrete, and we set up a movie theater, a bunch of gaming rooms, pool table, kitchen where we would order special fried food and stuff so people would use an air fryer and make wings and have sodas…

100s Weekend

100s weekend is a tradition adopted from the tank dwellers of West Point. With 100 days until commissioning, Firsties shift their focus from cadet life to becoming an officer. They celebrate with a special Mitch’s dinner and receive their first base assignments, then leave for the long weekend.

In their absence, Doolies historically have been given special privileges and taken part in traditions including:

  • Being at rest at all times

  • Wearing PT gear anywhere

  • Exploring other squadrons

  • Decorating a Firstie’s room

  • Finding the tunnels

  • Jumping into the pool from the catwalk

However, this year was not the same. 100s weekend was last weekend and Doolies had to abide by this OPORD:

  • Can only enter other squads within a predetermined window to decorate a specific Firstie’s room

  • At rest within squad

  • At attention or at ease everywhere else as designated by Cadet Wing policy

OPINION - Not a big fan of this one. I remember my Doolie year, I stayed in the library until the duty day was over. The purge sound was played over the CWOC speakers and my friends and I went through the air gardens for the first time! This OPORD made me feel as though the future classes are slowly slipping away because we are losing traditions that keep the Long Blue Line bound together.

In reality, the OPORD was not followed and loosely enforced according to some local Doolies. There were plenty of social media posts highlighting this, like riding bikes into the pool, drywalling alcoves, bringing CST to Sijan, climbing on the F4, and so much more (@barstool_af). Huge thank you to the Doolies for keeping this alive!
